Among the most misunderstood portions of Revelation are the seven last plagues recorded in Revelation chapters fifteen and sixteen. Throughout history, these plagues have often been interpreted primarily as acts of divine destruction poured out upon a rebellious world. Yet when viewed through the revelation of Jesus Christ, a greater purpose begins to emerge. The bowls proceed from the opened temple, from the presence of God, revealing the priestly ministry of Christ as He completes His work within His own house.

THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST
Before we attempt to understand The Seven Last Plagues, we must first understand the foundation upon which the entire Book of Revelation rests. The opening words are not, “The revelation of judgment,” “the revelation of wrath,” or “the revelation of plagues.” They are “The Revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Everything John saw flowed from this one great unveiling. Every seal, every trumpet, every bowl, every angel, every beast, every city, and every kingdom must ultimately reveal Jesus Christ and His eternal purpose. If we lose sight of Christ, we lose the meaning of every symbol that follows.
The purpose of The Seven Last Plagues is not merely to reveal what God opposes, but to reveal what Jesus Christ is accomplishing. Throughout Revelation, Christ progressively reveals, exposes, separates, purifies, overcomes, and reconciles until God’s eternal purpose stands complete.
THE THREE GREAT REALMS OF CREATION

John continually describes creation through three great realms:
Heaven
Earth
Sea
These are certainly part of the imagery of Revelation, yet they also become powerful symbols through which John unfolds the Revelation of Jesus Christ. As we read the book, we repeatedly encounter heaven, earth, and sea in vision after vision. Understanding these recurring realms provides an important lens for following the movement of John’s message.
The purpose of The Seven Last Plagues cannot be understood apart from these three realms because the ministry of the second angel reaches directly into one of them.
HEAVEN: THE HIGHEST STATE OF BEING
PASSAGE
“And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.”

THE THRONE OF GOD
Throughout Revelation, heaven reveals the highest realm.
It is the realm of:
The throne.
The government of God.
The mind of Christ.
Truth.
Life.
Light.
Righteousness.
Peace.
The fullness of God’s eternal purpose.
Everything proceeding from heaven reveals the nature and character of Jesus Christ. Heaven is where God’s government originates and from which His purpose is administered throughout creation.
The ministry revealed in The Seven Last Plagues proceeds from this heavenly source. Before the bowls are poured out, they come from the opened temple, revealing that God’s dealings begin in His own presence and flow from His holy purpose.
EARTH: THE REALM OF TRANSITION AND MIXTURE

WHERE GOD’S DEALINGS TAKE PLACE
The earth represents the realm where God’s work is unfolding.

The earth is the realm where Christ builds His church.
It is the realm where believers mature.
It is the realm where God’s dealings reveal what belongs to His kingdom and what belongs to the old creation.

THE SEA: THE LOWEST STATE OF BEING

THE LOWEST REALM
The sea represents the lowest realm revealed throughout John’s visions.
It speaks of the deepest expression of the Adamic condition.
Restlessness.
Darkness.
Death.
Confusion.
Mixture.
Corruption.
The sea pictures the lowest depth to which mankind can descend apart from the life of Jesus Christ.
It is into this realm that the second angel pours his bowl.
The revelation of Jesus Christ does not create death within the sea. Rather, it reveals the true condition of everything separated from the life of God. As the light of Christ shines into the deepest realm, the sea is exposed for what it truly is.
This understanding becomes foundational to The Seven Last Plagues, because the second angel ministers directly to this realm, revealing Christ’s purpose to expose, separate, purify, and ultimately reconcile.
THE JOURNEY OF RECONCILIATION

The bowls reveal the priestly ministry of Jesus Christ as He completes His work within His people, prepares His Bride, and advances God’s eternal purpose until all things are gathered together in Christ.
CHAPTER SUMMARY
Before we study the ministry of the second angel, we must first learn to see as John saw.
John’s Revelation continually unfolds through three great realms:
Heaven — the highest state of being.
Earth — the realm of transition and mixture.
Sea — the lowest state of being.

John does not begin with the bowl.
He begins with the opened temple.
The second angel does not appear from the sea.
He does not appear from the earth.
He proceeds from the presence of God.
His ministry begins in heaven because every true ministry begins with God. The opened temple reveals the source of the ministry before it reveals the work of the ministry. Everything proceeding from that temple bears the character, authority, and purpose of Jesus Christ.
The second angel is not ministering his own message.
He ministers the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
Everything he carries proceeds from the throne of God.
This becomes the foundation for understanding The Seven Last Plagues. The bowls are not independent acts of judgment. They proceed from the holy presence of God as part of Christ’s priestly ministry to accomplish His eternal purpose.
WHAT IS IN THE BOWL?

THE BOWL CONTAINS THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST
The great question is not simply what the second angel pours out.
The greater question is:
What is contained within the bowl?
The bowl is not merely a vessel of wrath.
It is the administration of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
Everything the bowl touches is brought into the light of Christ.
His revelation uncovers.
His revelation exposes.
His revelation separates.
His revelation purifies.
His revelation overcomes.
His revelation reconciles.
This is the heart of The Seven Last Plagues.
The revelation itself is not the plague.
The plague is what happens when the Revelation of Jesus Christ shines into a realm still governed by darkness, death, and mixture.
Throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus, His very presence exposed everything contrary to His nature. Darkness could not remain hidden. Hypocrisy could not remain concealed. Bondage could not remain unchallenged. The revelation of Christ uncovered the true condition of every heart.
The second angel continues that same ministry.
WHY THE SEA?

CHRIST MINISTERS TO THE LOWEST REALM FIRST
The second angel does not pour his bowl upon the throne.
He does not pour it into heaven.
He pours it into the sea.
Why?
Because the sea represents the lowest realm revealed throughout John’s visions.
Christ always ministers where the greatest need exists.
The sea reveals the deepest expression of the Adamic condition.
The restless mind.
The corruptible nature.
The realm of death.
The realm of mixture.
The realm where darkness appears to reign.
The revelation of Jesus Christ descends into the lowest realm because God’s purpose is reconciliation.
No depth is too deep for His love.
No darkness is too dark for His light.
No corruption is beyond His power to expose and overcome.
This is why The Seven Last Plagues begin their work within the sea.
THE SEA BECOMES AS THE BLOOD OF A DEAD MAN

THE REVELATION DOES NOT CREATE DEATH
The second angel does not create death.
He reveals it.
The sea had always existed in the condition John now sees.
The revelation simply uncovers its true nature.
The blood of a dead man is one of the strongest pictures in the Book of Revelation.
Everything that once appeared to possess life is revealed to be filled with death apart from Christ.
The sea represents the deepest state of separation from the life of God.
When the Revelation of Jesus Christ enters that realm, the illusion disappears.
Death is exposed.
Mixture is exposed.
Darkness is exposed.
The revelation does not destroy life.
It reveals where true life has never existed.
This is one of the central truths of The Seven Last Plagues.
Christ does not create the corruption.
He reveals the corruption in order to remove it.
THE FIERY LOVE OF GOD

LOVE REFUSES ANOTHER MASTER
Many have viewed The Seven Last Plagues as expressions of divine anger alone.
Yet the Revelation of Jesus Christ reveals something far deeper.
The fiery love of God refuses to allow His people to remain under the dominion of another master.
His love burns too deeply to leave His Bride imprisoned in darkness.
His holiness refuses mixture.
His truth refuses deception.
His life refuses death.
His light refuses darkness.
Therefore, the revelation of Jesus Christ becomes a consuming fire to everything that opposes His nature.
This is chastening with purpose.
This is judgment flowing from love.
This is reconciliation in action.
THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION

THE PURPOSE OF THE SECOND ANGEL
The ministry of the second angel is not condemnation.
It is reconciliation.

The purpose is always the same.
To reveal.
To expose.
To separate.
To purify.
To overcome.

This is the continuing ministry of Jesus Christ.

The second angel ministers until the sea no longer rules, until the Bride is prepared, until God’s eternal purpose advances toward the day when all things are gathered together in Christ and God is all in all.
CHAPTER SUMMARY
The second angel proceeds from the opened temple carrying the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
His bowl is not merely an instrument of judgment but a priestly administration revealing Christ Himself.
He pours that revelation into the sea because the sea represents the lowest realm requiring God’s reconciling work.

With the ministry of the second angel now established, we are prepared to look more deeply into the sea realm itself and discover why John consistently presents it as the lowest state of being within individuals, within the church, and among the nations.

THE SEA REALM: THE LOWEST STATE OF BEING

UNDERSTANDING THE SEA REALM
As we continue our study of The Seven Last Plagues, we must allow Scripture to define the symbolic language of Revelation.
The sea is far more than an ocean.
Throughout John’s visions, the sea reveals the lowest realm of man’s existence. It represents the deepest condition of the fallen Adamic nature apart from the life of Jesus Christ.
The sea is the lowest place upon the earth.
It becomes a fitting picture of the lowest state of being.
The realm of darkness.
The realm of death.
The realm of confusion.
The realm of instability.
The realm of corruption.
The realm where mankind lives apart from the fullness of God’s life.
When the second angel pours his bowl into the sea, The Seven Last Plagues reveal that Jesus Christ ministers directly to the deepest condition of mankind.
THE SEA WITHIN THE INDIVIDUAL

THE LOWEST CONDITION OF THE HUMAN HEART
Every believer understands the struggle between the old nature and the new.
The sea represents that restless condition.
Fear.
Unbelief.
Carnality.
Self-will.
Pride.
Confusion.
The fleshly mind.
Whenever man lives independently of Christ, the sea is manifested.
The sea is never at rest.
It is continually moved by circumstances.
Continually troubled by fear.
Continually driven by self.
This is why The Seven Last Plagues begin in the sea.
Jesus Christ first ministers where man’s greatest need exists.
THE SEA WITHIN THE CHURCH

THE SEA OF MIXTURE
The Revelation of Jesus Christ begins with seven churches.
Why?
Because Christ first deals with His own house.
Even among God’s people there can be mixture.
Carnal thinking.
Religious pride.
Division.
Fear.
Dependence upon the flesh.
The sea can exist wherever Christ has not yet been fully formed.
The purpose of The Seven Last Plagues is not to condemn God’s people.
The purpose is to remove everything that hinders the full revelation of Jesus Christ within His church.
The second angel ministers until the sea within God’s house is overcome.
THE SEA AMONG THE NATIONS
PASSAGE
“The waters which thou sawest… are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.”

THE CORPORATE SEA
The sea also reveals mankind corporately.
Nations.
Kingdoms.
Religious systems.
Political systems.
Economic systems.
Every corporate expression of the Adamic order.
Whenever mankind builds a society apart from the life of Christ, the sea is manifested.
Violence.
Hatred.
Greed.
Oppression.
Confusion.
War.
These are not the source.
They are the fruit.
The source lies deeper.
The sea.
This is why The Seven Last Plagues reveal the condition before they reveal the cure.
Jesus Christ exposes the root before He removes the fruit.
THE LOWEST DEPTHS OF THE SEA

HOW LOW CAN MAN DESCEND?
The deepest trenches of the sea become a powerful picture of the deepest corruption possible within fallen humanity.
History repeatedly demonstrates how far mankind can descend when separated from the life of God.
Cruelty.
Hatred.
Violence.
Deception.
The fallen heart is capable of astonishing depths of darkness.
Yet The Seven Last Plagues do not reveal these depths to leave mankind without hope.
They reveal them so the revelation of Jesus Christ may descend even there.
No darkness is too deep.
No corruption too great.
No sea too deep for Christ.
His light reaches the lowest realm.
His truth reaches the deepest deception.
His love reaches the deepest wound.
THE SECOND ANGEL REVEALS THE SEA

THE REVELATION EXPOSES DEATH
The second angel does not bring death.
He reveals it.
The sea had always been separated from the life of God.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ simply exposes its true condition.
Everything appearing to possess life apart from Christ is revealed to be filled with death.
This is one of the greatest lessons of The Seven Last Plagues.
Christ does not create corruption.
Christ uncovers corruption.
Christ does not create darkness.
Christ shines into darkness.
The revelation becomes the plague because everything contrary to Christ cannot remain hidden in His presence.
THE PURPOSE OF THE SEA REALM

THE SEA IS NOT THE DESTINATION
The sea is not where God intends His people to remain.
It is the realm Christ enters.
The second angel pours the bowl into the sea because love refuses to abandon God’s people to the lowest state of being.
The revelation enters the sea.
The sea is exposed.
The sea is overcome.
The sea is reconciled.
This is the ministry of reconciliation.
This is the purpose of The Seven Last Plagues.
The fiery love of God descends into the lowest depths until everything contrary to Jesus Christ is exposed, separated, purified, overcome, and brought into harmony with His eternal purpose.
CHAPTER SUMMARY
The sea represents the lowest state of being revealed throughout the Book of Revelation.
It is revealed personally within the individual.
Corporately within the church.
Universally among the nations.
The second angel pours the revelation of Jesus Christ into that lowest realm, not to destroy creation, but to expose everything separated from the life of God. The ministry of The Seven Last Plagues begins where man’s need is greatest, demonstrating that no depth is beyond the reach of Christ’s reconciling love. With the sea now understood, we are prepared to see why God first forms a company of overcomers before sending them forth in priestly ministry to complete His work within His house.

THE FIRSTFRUITS PRIESTHOOD

THE CALL TO OVERCOME
Before we understand the ministry of The Seven Last Plagues, we must understand why Jesus begins the Revelation by speaking to His church.
The first three chapters are not addressed to the nations.
They are not addressed to Babylon.
They are not addressed to the beast.
They are addressed to the churches.
Again and again the Spirit declares,
“To him that overcometh.”
This repeated promise reveals that Christ is calling His entire church toward maturity.
The invitation is universal.
The response is progressive.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ announces that an overcoming company will arise from among God’s people.
These firstfruits are not the end of God’s purpose.
They are the beginning of His next administration.
THE BIRTH OF THE MAN-CHILD
PASSAGE
“And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to His throne.”

THE FIRSTFRUITS APPEAR
The promises given in Revelation 2 and 3 begin to find their expression in Revelation 12.
The church woman brings forth the man-child.
The overcomers now appear.
The firstfruits have become a living reality.
The man-child is caught up to God and to His throne.
This reveals a company brought into heavenly authority through the life of Jesus Christ.
Yet the vision does not end there.
The woman remains.
God prepares a place for her in the wilderness.
The firstfruits have been manifested, but the harvest has not yet been completed.
This becomes one of the great foundations of The Seven Last Plagues.
THE FIRSTFRUITS STAND WITH THE LAMB

“These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.”

THE BEGINNING OF THE HARVEST
Revelation now reveals the firstfruits standing with the Lamb upon Mount Zion.
Notice the language.
They are called firstfruits.
Firstfruits always imply that more is coming.
God never reveals the firstfruits as the completed harvest.
The firstfruits become the pledge of the full harvest yet to come.
This pattern has always existed throughout Scripture.
Christ is called the Firstfruits.
Then comes the harvest.
Here again the Revelation of Jesus Christ follows the same divine order.
The firstfruits are revealed before the completed Bride.
THE PRIESTHOOD OF THE FIRSTFRUITS

OVERCOMERS BECOME MINISTERS
Revelation 15 marks a glorious transition.
The firstfruits are no longer presented merely as overcomers.
They now stand before God in priestly ministry.
The temple is opened.
The angels proceed from the presence of God.
The bowls are entrusted to those ministering from heaven.
This reveals that victory is never the final goal.
Those who overcome become ministers.
Before they reign over the nations, they minister within the household of God.
The first work of this priesthood is not toward the world.
It is toward the church.
This is one of the great revelations of The Seven Last Plagues.
THE WILDERNESS HAS A PURPOSE

“And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God…”

THE REMAINING HARVEST
While the man-child is caught up to God and His throne, the church woman is preserved.
God prepares a place for her.
The wilderness is not abandonment.
It is preparation.
It is preservation.

The journey that began in the lowest depths of the sea ends before the throne, where God’s purpose stands complete and God is all in all. Brother, I think this ending brings the entire book full circle—from the sea in Chapter One to the throne in Chapter Ten, with Jesus Christ remaining the center of every chapter and The Seven Last Plagues serving as the priestly ministry that advances God’s eternal purpose until reconciliation reaches its glorious fulfillment.
