Definition
The Finished Work of Christ is the completed redemption Jesus accomplished through His death, resurrection, and enthronement. When He cried, “It is finished” (John 19:30), the debt was paid, prophecy fulfilled, and the New Creation began. The Book of Revelation unveils this Finished Work of Christ in prophetic picture — the Lamb enthroned, death defeated, and a new creation arising in the earth.
Key Aspects of the Finished Work of Christ
- Propitiation — God’s righteous wrath satisfied (1 Jn 4:10; Rom 3:25). Jesus’ sacrifice didn’t just cover sin; it fully satisfied divine justice. The barrier between God and man was removed forever, opening the way for fellowship. The Book of Revelation reveals this propitiation in the slain Lamb standing in the midst of the throne (Rev 5:6).
- Redemption — the ransom paid; slaves made free (Eph 1:7; Mk 10:45). By His blood, Jesus purchased us out of bondage to sin and death. Redemption means freedom with a price fully paid — sons no longer live as captives. The Book of Revelation declares this redemption openly: “Thou hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood” (Rev 5:9).
- Reconciliation — hostility ended; access opened (2 Cor 5:18–21; Heb 10:19–22). In Christ, peace with God was secured; the veil is torn, and believers now walk in bold access and restored relationship. Revelation shows this reconciliation in the open throne, the emerald rainbow, and the ceaseless worship of restored creation (Rev 4–5).
- Fulfillment — types and prophecies completed in Christ (Lk 24:27; Heb 9–10). Every shadow of the Old Covenant pointed to Him. The sacrifices, feasts, and prophetic promises now find their completion in His finished work. The Book of Revelation reveals the fullness of this fulfillment as the Lamb completes every prophecy and opens every seal (Rev 5:7).
- Conquest — powers disarmed; death defeated (Col 2:13–15; 2 Tim 1:10). At the cross, Christ stripped principalities of authority, triumphed openly, and abolished death forever. His resurrection secures victory, and His throne ensures reign. Revelation displays this conquest visibly as the Lamb overcomes the dragon, the beast, and death itself (Rev 12, Rev 19–20).
The Finished Work of Christ is not just doctrine but destiny — it unveils life, immortality, and the present reign of sons in Zion.
What Does “Tetelestai” Mean?
In Greek commerce, tetelestai meant “paid in full.” On the cross Jesus declared the debt canceled and the mission accomplished. No additions, no religious up-charges — we live from a finished victory, not toward one. The Book of Revelation confirms this finished work as the Lamb stands enthroned, opening the seals of a redemption already completed (Rev 5:1–7).
What Do Believers Receive?
- Total forgiveness and a cleansed conscience (Heb 10:14–22). The Book of Revelation reflects this cleansing in the saints whose robes are made white in the blood of the Lamb (Rev 7:14).
- Righteous standing — accepted in the Beloved (Eph 1:6; Rom 5:1). Revelation shows this acceptance as worship rises before the throne from a redeemed people (Rev 5:9–10).
- Freedom to reign in life through Christ (Rom 5:17). The Book of Revelation unveils this reign as the overcomers share the Lamb’s throne and authority (Rev 3:21).
- Life and immortality revealed (2 Tim 1:10). Revelation displays this immortality in the redeemed who serve Him in bodies of light, where “there shall be no more death” (Rev 21:4).

How does this change daily life?
You stop striving for acceptance and start walking in sonship — confidence before the Father, freedom from accusation, power to love and reign.
Is anything left for us to “finish”?
Not the atonement. Our role is renewed mind + obedient walk: manifest what He finished (Rom 12:2; Col 2:6).
Does this deny holiness or growth?
No. The Spirit applies what Christ finished — forming holiness in a people who already stand righteous in Him (Rom 8:1–4, 13–14).
